Protecting Turtles, Empowering Communities, Restoring Coastlines
Join us in preserving marine life and enhancing community sustainability along the Kenyan coast.
01.
Community Driven
We believe in local solutions. Our programs are built by and for the Mtwapa community to drive long-term conservation from within.
02.
Youth-Led
Young people are at the heart of our mission. We empower the next generation of conservationists to take the lead in protecting turtles and their coastal habitat.
03.
Holistic Approach
While our primary focus is turtle protection, we support this through cleanup efforts, education, and community awareness to ensure a thriving coastal ecosystem.
Our Mission and Vision
At Mtwapa Maweni Turtle Conservation Group, we are committed to the protection of endangered sea turtles and the ecosystems they depend on. Our mission is to ensure these ancient mariners survive and thrive, through local education, coastal conservation, and youth-led action.
What began as a small initiative by passionate youth has grown into a dedicated community movement for marine protection and environmental justice.
Our Community Initiatives
We design projects that prioritize sea turtle conservation while uplifting local communities and restoring the health of our coastline.
Turtle Monitoring
Our dedicated team monitors nesting beaches and turtle hatcheries, recording activity and ensuring hatchlings safely reach the ocean.
Beach Cleanups
Every week, volunteers clean Mtwapa Beach to remove plastic and harmful waste that threatens sea turtles and marine life.
Education Programs
We hold local workshops to educate youth and families on turtle biology, nesting behavior, and how to protect their habitat.
